Last Saturday, volunteers performed a Coastal Cleanup of Sarasota County, FL. Hundreds of volunteers from numerous organizations combed the shoreline, picking up all trash as small as cigarette butts. They were wearing Coastal Cleanup tee shirts.

I saw a small group in downtown Sarasota wearing lime green shirts. Several young girls were picking up objects, while a slightly older lady with similar shirt sat on a bench, writing in a notebook. I approached her about being photographed; she shrugged and said OK. Tonya was with a Girl Scout troop from Bradenton, 12 miles away. She lives halfway in between, but as she was raised in Sarasota, she chose to clean up this area. Nice.
