Casey (#18) 6-19-12

Casey and Julia (post #19) were sitting at an outdoor bench, by a coffee shop. They easily agreed to be photographed. When I asked Casey NOT to "say Cheese", she just naturally assumed this gesture.

I very much like the hand on the side of the face, and this is my first "stranger" to have it in the frame. In classic portraiture, hands are difficult to position. Usually all fingers are splayed, or evenly flexed. Having fingers in different positions is a distraction, and considered a no-no. So here, I've cropped part of the hand. But so what, I've cropped part of the face too! My feeling is that just enough of the hand is present to clue the viewer as to how Casey is positioned. Let the viewers imagination fill in the blanks.
