Fred (#1) May 6, 2012

It will take a while to get used to this blog formatting - but I WILL get used to it!

Last month, I walked to the St. Petersburg Pier. Fred was sitting on a bench, possibly waiting for a bus. I saw the  mustache and immediately wanted to photograph him. He was sitting in shade, facing bright sunlight, a fairly good lighting situation.

I walked up to Fred, introduced myself, and explained why I wanted to photograph him. He had no reservations. I then explained that I liked authentic expressions, not the "say cheese" smile that most of us offer when a camera is raised. I was pleased that he immediately complied and looked genuine (authentic and genuine are my mantra).

I thanked him, and went on my way. The entire encounter was two to three minutes.
