Brandon was sitting at a table outside of a coffee shop, with two friends. The light fell differently on all three. For Brandon, it was a little hot, with the left side of his face being considerably brighter than the right. Rather than trying to move him, I envisioned a rather dark, moody shot, and post processed accordingly.

I have done this a couple of times in the past. Last year I met Mauricio in a dark location and post processed an image to a low key look. As Brandon’s image was much lighter, there was more digital information to work with.

Arguably this look works for men, at least I like it. For women, not so much. This lady was a docent at an old house in Bluffton, SC. We were in the un-restored slave quarters that had just one tiny window. This gave the harsh directional light that is not too flattering for a woman.
